Free Food Program
Every other Tuesday, Tap Mundy Park volunteers distribute food to new immigrants and refugees at the church in partnership with the Food Link Society.
The Food Link Society arranges our Free Food Distribution program by registering clients, picking up the food donated from local grocery stores and delivering it to Tap Mundy. Tap Mundy volunteers distribute the food into boxes assigned to clients and bring them out to each client as they attend the program for pick up. There is an additional opportunity to interact with our clients as they have the opportunity to pick up bread and bakery products from our volunteers at outside tables.
This program began in August 2020, (during COVID) and those that volunteered then were in large part retired members who had the time to help. We currently have 25 registered volunteers, 6 of whom have been with the program since it began.
This program started with roughly 20 clients and through the years has grown to 55 clients with a waiting list. Clients are from the community and have proven need for assistance. Since our space is limited, 55 clients are the most that we can accommodate.
All the food received would otherwise end up in the compost landfill—this is an incredible program providing food for those in need.
