Leadership Cohort
The goal of our Leadership Cohort is to give participants an opportunity to (1) grow in self-knowledge, (2) cultivate practices that will sustain them in life and work, (3) learn new leadership skills, and (4) effectively lead the communities they serve.
In the Fall of 2024, we saw the launch of our first Leadership Cohort, a pilot project intended to lean into one of our three priorities as a community, “Cultivating Leadership Capacity.”
Over the course of 12 sessions plus a final retreat, we worked through topics such as personal assets, keeping a rule of life, the mission of God, the art of storytelling, having a coaching mindset, casting vision and leading groups. The goal was to give participants an opportunity to grow in self-knowledge and awareness, cultivate practices that will sustain them in life and work, learn new leadership skills and lead in community.
Pastor Sam designed the cohort from four core convictions about leadership.
First, is that the best leaders lead from inside out. Leadership flows out from who we are and what we bring to the table. So the more we know who we are and who we are not, the more effective we are as leaders.
Second, is that the best leaders are first followers. They know who they are following and why and are aware of the influences that formed them as a leader. Learning to follow Jesus intentionally is essential to the health and vibrancy of Christian leadership.
Third, is that leadership is primarily about influence and the best leaders know how to influence in ways that bring out the best in the people they lead.
Fourth, is that that leadership doesn’t exist in a vacuum but within a community and the best leaders know how to lead effectively within the particular community they live and work in.
One highlight of this cohort was that all the learning took place within the context of a trust-building community. Each person not only took responsibility for their own growth, but they also helped foster an environment that supported the learning of others.
Our hope is to continue to refine both the content and process of the cohort to make a better offering for the future. If you’ve felt the need to invest in your own development, consider joining the next iteration of the Mundy Park Leadership Cohort.
